Before reading the article, I had no idea that there was so much German-American history. I was pretty surprised to read that Germans actually came into contact with Native Americans. I found the bit about the Turner movement especially interesting because I share some similar ideals. I guess that my overall lack of knowledge about German influences in America shows how German culture has become submerged.
