AMD 3

For the third AMD, I read an article written in German about American culture from a blog for germans (sort of the opposite of our Kultur readings). It was called "US-Produkte Bestellen," and was on Americans' favorite products. Although some (aka most) of the words were beyond my comprehension, it was pretty entertaining the things said (and understood). Each category heading also led you to a link to a website where you could by certain types of American foods, such as: http://www.steplet.de/ and http://www.usfoodz.de/. In their lists of things we love, it included products and food items such as: pop-tarts, baking mixes (Backmischungen), Cheddar cheese (Cheddar-Käse), and candies (Süßigkeiten). There was also a company called "Canada Fan Shop," that presumably sold Canada's favorite products (which American's also love), such as: Bisonfleisch (I'm assuming this is Bison meat), Ahornsirup (maple syrup), Indianerkunst (Native American Art). The maple syrup is at least accurate! There is also much on American BBQ, including places to buy "Klassiker für Haus & Garten" ("Classics for the home and garden") including things from Weber grills to BBQ-Soßen (BBQ-sauces). Another company states "Sie gehören zur Amerikanischen Küche wie Apple Pie und Meatloaf" (Which I read to say "They have the American cuisine of Apply Pie and Meatloaf"); and odd combination, but American non-the-less. But they were pretty accurate on what we like to eat, and definitely knew where to get American food. Not sure about the bit on Canadian best-sellers though!
